Welcome to the ChaloBEST Wiki!
This is the repository of all documentation, notes and plans for our project, which began in January 2011 as a studio-based learning experiment at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) to make public and open transport data available over free and open source (FOSS) web, SMS, and smartphone applications.
ChaloBEST is a collaboration between CAMP, Gnowledge Lab at HBCSE, MacGregor Technknowlogy, SPARC Systems and UserInnov in Mumbai. We welcome participation by individuals and organisations who agree with our Memorandum of Understanding.
ChaloBEST was created by the people at CAMP CAMP (Critical Arts & Media Practice), MESN (Mumbai Environmental Social Network) and Sparc Systems with help from officials of the Traffic Planning Department of BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply & Transport Undertaking).
We are now supported by Indian Institute of Human Settlements (IIHS) as the first-prize winners in the Sankranti Transform Urban India competition held at the India Urban Conference 2011.

Project Documentation
Design
- Front End for the specification for the website design and layout for ChaloBEST and BusRoutes.in.
- User Studies for usability research and design concepts led by Carolien Klep of UserINNOV.
- Graphics for notes and ideas on overall graphic design and principles led by Chitra Venkataramani.
API & Web Services
- API for notes on the application programming interface for use by various web frontends for ChaloBEST and BusRoutes.in.

Database

SMS Application

- SMS-Queries documents the query syntax for the SMS service (needs to be updated).
Android Application
- Mobile Dev for guidelines for J2ME and Android smartphone development by MacGregor Tech since January 2012.
- Android Dev for feedback and bug reports on the app now called SmartShehar, developed with our data and inputs from July to December 2011.
Workshop and Studio Notes
- Workshops for documentations of hacker workshops held at CAMP and Gnowledge to start the project, earlier known as SMS-BEST, in early 2011.
- FreemapStudio2012 for working plans for 15-28 February 2012 grass roots and DIY mapping activities in Mumbai with Groundtruth Initiative.

ChaloBEST Grant Proposals
- Sankranti Transform Urban India for our original project proposal which won first prize in the Sankranti Transform Urban India competition held at India Urban Conference in November 2011.

ChaloBEST Partner Agreements
